On August 29, 2013, the Internal Revenue Service ruled that legally married, same-sex couples will be treated as married for all federal tax purposes, whether or not they live in states and jurisdictions where same-sex marriage is recognized. It includes individual income, gift and estate taxes. This ruling implements federal tax aspects of the June 26, 2013, Supreme Court decision that held that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was unconstitutional. Read more>>
